The paper also has significant readership in most of the state east of Winston-Salem. The paper has a daily circulation of approximately 176,000, and a Sunday circulation of approximately 211,000. It is the state´s second-largest newspaper, after The Charlotte Observer. In 1995, the paper was purchased by McClatchy Company of Sacramento, California.
