The paper is distributed throughout York, Chester, and Lancaster counties. In March 1985, the company was bought by the News and Observer Company of Raleigh, North Carolina. The paper turned into a semi-weekly in 1893. The new owners changed the Saturday edition to morning and got rid of the Evening part of the name.
